Spiderman,Batman,and………The Simple Commonman

Right from my k.g. days I’m a great fan of all the superheroes. During those days when there was no cable-TV connection I used to enjoy THE HE-MAN, SUPERMAN series aired in DD METRO CHANNEL. I’ve spent all my school summer vacation at KERALA, my native place. Though there I used to miss the DD METRO series, my uncle used to read for me the heroic acts of MAYAVI- the philanthropist magician, KAPISH- the prodigious monkey from a Malayalam children’s magazine.
Now new heroes have taken birth to pulverize the evils. We have TERMINATOR- the humanitarian machine, SPIDERMAN- the virtuous omnipotent but a simple boy next door and of course JAMES BOND- the macho man who has come fighting against terrorism. New guy has also arrived BATMAN- the patriot billionaire scion.
When the batman is protecting us from the wicked ones at IMAX- the worlds` largest dome theater; the slum dwellers at wadala (at a stone throw away distance from IMAX.) are struggling for their basic rights.
When the lashes of speedy floodwater gulped the helpless workers at ghatghar we didn’t see any spider man coming to rescue these workers- the sole bread earners of their families.
Sensational hits like Spiderman, batman has coaxingly induced in us that fighting with the corrupted devilish world is something a common man can’t do. These blockbusters are making us forget our duties as a responsible human with no magic powers. What we need is realistic fictions like Mr. &Mrs. IYER, CHANDNI BAR in which the film makers have retrieved the conditions which actually exist.
When Bush is saying no to protective measures for our mother planet, when the greedy irrationalists are dividing the nations, no spider man is going to stop these misanthropic deeds by using his cob- webs, we will not see any billionaire batman with his wonder car who will fight against these sinisters but we responsible citizens will have to come to ground to fight. Rather than waiting or any prodigy we have to become NANAS& OMPURIS to save the humanity.

GLOSSARY:-
GHATGHAR:- ghatghar accident where 15 workers lost their lives when unexpectedly floodwaters entered their underground worksites.

Mr&Mrs IYER & CHANDNI BAR:- critically acclaimed Indian films.

NANAS & OMPURIS: - nana patekar and ompuri, the Indian actors who mostly portrayed the Indian common man.
